THANK YOU for joining the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes ® Challenge

This challenge helps to raise awareness and critical funds that will allow SafeSpace to continue to save and change the lives of victims of domestic violence.

The spread of COVID-19 has affected all our lives this past year. And it has set the stage for an exacerbated domestic violence crisis with the abused and the abusers spending more time than usual in close quarters. The Treasure Coast of Florida saw a 20% increase in the incidence of domestic violence every single month at the beginning of the pandemic.

Did you know that SafeSpace has rescued over 40K adults & children from domestic violence on the Treasure Coast?

For more than 40 years, SafeSpace has provided nearly half a million safe nights of shelter to more than 40,000 victims and their children throughout the Treasure Coast of Indian River, Martin and St. Lucie counties. SafeSpace is much more than just a crisis hotline and an emergency shelter. Victims inside and outside the shelter are empowered to become survivors through an extensive array of outreach programs and services, including legal assistance, safety planning, financial literacy training, emotional and mental health counseling, advocacy, community outreach, and prevention education.

SafeSpace Needs Your Help to Stop the Cycle of Violence

SafeSpace, a 501c3 nonprofit organization, is the only Certified Domestic Violence Center on the Treasure Coast, offering a safe haven to victims and their children as they seek refuge from physical and emotional abuse. In the past year, SafeSpace received 2,835 hotline crisis calls, served 736 domestic violence victims, and provided a total of 18,356 services. More calls and more needs for services are expected as COVID-19 restrictions are lifted and victims are able to get away from their abusers.

We are so grateful for the support of our Walk A Mile In Her Shoes virtual event sponsor, PNC Wealth Management! They are committed to strengthening and enriching the lives of their neighbors in communities where they live and work. Together, we are making a difference in the lives of victims of domestic violence.
